Origin

Ruth’s Covenant was born from a compelling need to address the systemic challenges faced by single mothers, who are often disproportionately burdened by partners who contribute less to the family's welfare and more to its troubles. These women, much like Ruth of the Bible, embody resilience and care, yet find themselves saddled with additional challenges that hinder their ability to provide and thrive. Ruth’s Covenant redirects potential wasted resources to empower these courageous mothers to forge a new path—one of independence, stability, and hope—ensuring they and their children step into a future unburdened by the past. This initiative not only supports their immediate needs but also builds a foundation for lasting empowerment.

Mission

In the spirit of the timeless bond and enduring commitment exemplified by Ruth in the Book of Ruth, particularly reflected in the verses of Ruth 1:16-18, MRCI Charities proudly introduces Ruth’s Covenant. This initiative is inspired by the journey of Ruth, who, through her unwavering loyalty and determination, not only secured her own place of belonging but also ensured the well-being of her family across generations.

Just as Ruth declared, 'Where you go, I will go, and where you stay, I will stay. Your people will be my people and your God my God,' Ruth’s Covenant is founded on principles of solidarity, support, and enduring dedication to single mothers and their children facing challenging circumstances.

Ruth’s Covenant seeks to embody the strength, resilience, and mutual support that Ruth demonstrated, providing a beacon of hope and a community of care for single mothers striving to navigate and overcome the obstacles they face. By fostering environments where mothers and children can thrive, free from the burdens of past dependencies, Ruth’s Covenant is committed to transforming lives and ensuring that every family has the opportunity to create a stable, secure, and prosperous future.

Project Abstract for Ruth’s Covenant: Enhancing Elder Independence and Intergenerational Learning in Indiana

MRCI Charities, Inc., a 501(c)(3) organization based in Indiana, presents Ruth’s Covenant, an innovative supportive housing project tailored for very low-income historically oppressed populations and other women aged 60 and over. This initiative is uniquely designed to integrate elder care with educational and vocational opportunities for the broader community, including local college students and youth transitioning out of foster care.

Situated in a community enriched with educational institutions and a vibrant university presence known for its commitment to volunteerism, the project aims to leverage local resources. Ruth’s Covenant will develop 12 fully accessible housing units equipped with comprehensive health services, child care facilities, and communal areas for cultural activities such as traditional crafts and cooking. This focused approach ensures detailed attention to the needs of residents, their grandchildren, and transitional foster youth. The project is designed to foster intergenerational interactions, enabling elders to impart wisdom and cultural heritage while receiving compassionate care and support. Additionally, the initiative will serve as a model for integrating elder care with community-based learning and volunteerism, aligning with the FY 2023 Section 202 Supportive Housing for the Elderly Program’s goals of innovative housing solutions and community engagement.

The project aligns with the FY 2023 Section 202 Supportive Housing for the Elderly Program’s goals

by providing innovative housing solutions that allow elderly individuals to age in place within a

supportive and culturally responsive community environment. As the initiative demonstrates its

effectiveness, plans are in place to expand to more units, further contributing to the community’s
